THE LOOP: Cricket ignominy, rugby in the UK, penguins in Balclutha, and the Shearing Championships

12 October 2008

This month we present to you a veritable barrage of Beige Brigade news - from a new and slightly off-centre offering in the Beige Brigade Shop through to information about a bunch of our tours, some great pics, and a fleece-by-fleece account of some beige boys' in Norway at the Golden Shears. Anything to take your attention off the fact that we lost to Bangla-bloody-desh at cricket this week!

Zinny shows some man loveRUGBY #1: New Zealand vs Wales - The Speight's Return Coach, just £139. The wonderful chaps (and chap-esses) at Speight's have come to the party and are looking to fill a special (needs) Beige Brigade/Speight's Coach for the ABs v Wales game on 22 November 2008 in Cardiff. The trip is normally £159...so they have paid your first 20 quid. There are extremely limited seats on what will be a sensational Speight's roadie to Cardiff so get in quick - details HERE. (For those who have already booked with the Beige Brigade for this game...do not fret. Speight's are going to hook you all up with a few too many beverages on your coach. Good on ya mate.)

The best knitted penguin in the worldPENGUIN #1: Remember our crusade to improve the life of the ostracised Beige Penguin down in the Antarctic (as seen on TV1 News last year)? We received a magnificent letter from a lovely little old lady from Balcultha. She has offered to knit us our own Beige Brigade Penguins in honour of our little rejected beige-feathered friend. Check out the first flock in the Shop!

CRICKET #1: New Zealand vs Australia - The Double Headbutt Tour. We are leaving the Wellington 7s behind at Waitangi weekend and heading over to Australia to watch us scare the crap out of the Aussies at the MCG on 6 February 2009, and then again at the SCG in Sydney on 8 February 2009. You should come along and unleash with us as well. Download the details and let us know by 30 October 2008 if you are keen to indulge with us. You can make your own way to and from Australia and just join us for the 4 days of cricketing paradise if you like.

RUGBY #2: We also still have limited places left on the ABs v Scotland & Ireland Tours but they are selling out faster than our jandal socks.. after Dan Carter fleeced a pair off us at Toast NZ. Ah he's so dreamy...see the slideshow of photos of the Beige Brigade's sport zone at Toast NZ with Zinzan and Dan here

Cris Kabul in beige clobberIN A NUTSHELL: The NZ season's international and domestic itineraries are out and about. The Beige Brigade's blog on the Stuff website - Sideline Slogger - is back and swinging like a rusty gate; and The BYC podcast is back to offend your ears after a couple of months in hiatus because of a "security threat" eerily similar to that facing the teams at the postponed Champions' Trophy (even though the Pakistani guy down the road said it was safe).

CRICKET #2: We are keen to pull together a side to take on one of Wellington Cricket's more social sides - the Wanderers Cricket Club. If you are keen to indulge in a bit of a one-dayer against them at some stage during the summer, fizz us an email to beigeHQ@beigebrigade.co.nz.

SPEIGHT'S GREAT BEER DELIVERY 1 YEAR B'DAY PARTY: ABs tickets given away every hour. Come and help celebrate the 1 year anniversary of the Speight's Great Beer Delivery at The Southerner, Temple, London on Saturday 25 October 2008. Every hour from 7pm-10pm they will be giving away a seat on the Speight's Beige Bus to Cardiff for the ABs v Wales game. PLUS they will be replaying the NPC Final on the screens at 7.30pm, followed by a live band...be rude not to. Also start getting ready for Movember at The Southerner - details soon.

BEIGE BRIGADE AROUND THE WORLD: Cris sent us a visual of himself beiged up in the outrageous dust of Kabul; Mike went half beige for the dodgeball Battle of the Bridge (representing Nth Harbour); and DC sent us a pic of young Liam - his son who refuses to go to bed unless he has his Beige Brigade sweatband on his little arm.

Norway - with the AverysWORLD SHEARING CHAMPS IN NORWAY : Hotdogs, guns, sheep and beige...the perfect cocktail. A small platoon of committed stubbie/singlet wearing Beige Brigade loons headed to Bjerkreim (i.e. middle of nowhere) to support Paul Avery and the team as they grabbed 4 out of a possible 6 World Shearing titles - read their tour report involving an armed hotdog stand owner, Paul Avery's Mum's fetish, and sleeping on fishing crates here.

DAVE DOBBYN at Notting Hill, London: The greatest curly-haired New Zealander is playing at 12 Acklam Rd in London on Friday 28 November 2008. That is the night before we drill the Poms in the rugby so get along and to the stirring stuff from the Dobba! Tickets are £15 click here to grab 'em. Plus the chaps at The Church have 2 tickets to give away between sermons - just email win@thechurch.co.uk with "Dave Dobbyn" in the subject and you're in!

WATCH THIS: Harbhajan Singh is on India's Dancing With the Stars equivalent - Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena (hopefully we pronounced that correctly). Outrageous - and Wasim Akram is a judge! Completely out of control - you will find it quite odd. Contenders from a NZ Cricket perspective would have to be Martin "Did you know I was with Lorraine Downes?" Crowe, Disco Rod Latham, Andrew Jumpin' Jones,

BIG NIGHT DOWNUNDER - Dishlickers in Wimbledon:  Grab a cheesecutter and an old man's suit smelling of cabbage for this year's Big Night Downunder at the dogs, Friday 31st October at Wimbledon. It happens to be Halloween so there will be some ludicrous prizes up for grabs for the best Halloween costume. Tickets are just £10, includes entry to the dogs, 1 drink at entry, 1 pie, a £2 betting voucher, race card and a drink + entry to the Halloween after party. There is also a Premium Option for all those feeling flush. Full details and tickets click here.

Over & out from us - take care out there!

Paul & Mike
