THE LOOP: On the road to World Cup glory

19 April 2007

The Kiwi boys are thundering into the semi-finals at the Cricket World Cup this week - we've got the Lankans on Anzac Day. It will be a battle that is for sure. Hope there is TV coverage in Gallipoli!

#1 - The Southern X Rendezvous. All Wellington-based Beige Brigadiers are invited with their friends, Romans and countrymen to come and watch us annihilate Australia and Sri Lanka at the Southern Cross pub on Abel Smith St. We will be there for the second innings from about 5.30am this Saturday morning and next Wednesday. Bacon, eggs, clapping and coffee will be on order - plus a few pints.

#2. The Cricket World Cup. Well from all accounts it has been expensive and a bloody shambles, as predicted. However, didn't they do well those boys in black? And by crikey there has been some beige thunder emanating from the stands - magnificent effort, and covered in the pictures here and here. Mike and the boys are off to the CWC final following on from the Beige Brigade tour to Gallipoli for ANZAC Day..he has quite a hard life in the mean streets of Covent Garden.

#3. The Beeb. Keep an eye on BBC World (Sky Digital channel 93) tomorrow night at 10pm, probably when the Aussies are singing their droning anthem before the rugby loig Test against us. Paul is set to be streaming live from Beige Brigade HQ in Karori on the BBC's 'My Cricket World Cup' programme. Mike was on the show talking about Buck Shelford's bollock earlier in the tournament...see that here if you dare.

#4. The BYC. It's bigger than Lou Vincent's chin this thing. This week the NZ Herald pulled us out as one of the top three podcasts to be thundering out of New Zealand. Bloody ridiculous - see the article here in The Visuals. There are now 29 episodes of The BYC (iTunes link is here) with Kev, Offwhite Thunder, The Woman Slayer and the Godfather chipping away about the news, singing, and listening to Billy Bowden's weekly rave.

#5. Punching. Now this is magnificently ridiculous!. The Beige Brigade will host a table at the upcoming NZ vs England Celebrity Boxing Ball in London. It is on 8 June 2007 at Old Billings Gate in a massive black tie evening. Andrew Penn, Kery Walmsley, Eric Rush and Frank Bunce will all line up in the ring to beat up some Poms included the Hollioake brother (the one that is not dead). We will be running amok with our table with a full sit-down meal with complimentary drinks all night from 7pm until 2am! We're giving away seats at the Beige Table for 4 weeks in a row - just chip away here to enter and get more info...

#6. Letter to the Editor. Ed Forsman wrote to the Dom Post with the world's dumbest idea in relation to the Basin Reserve. His letter and our published response are here on The Rave. Don't mess with the beige brother!

#7. Wind and Cool Sunglasses. The Beige Brigade is swaggering along to extract the michael out of the America's Cup in Valencia. Plan is to take mobs to the Louis Vuitton Final and the America's Cup Final and put some beige wind up the Emirates Team NZ chaps.Get involved - Valencia is a sensational place and the new America's Cup Port is unreal and stacked with bars/shops/nightclubs...perfect for watching sailing!

#8. Face Book. Hot on the heels of our My Space site (http://www.myspace.com/beigebrigade)- if anyone is on Face Book (www.facebook.com), the Beige Brigade have a wee presence on there. We are so tech savvy, we're the supporters' version of Dennis Lillee's aluminium bat. Feel free to chip away at us on the message board, upload some photos and generally fart about.

#9. Man Cows. It's time for The Running of the Bulls soon - so dust off the cricket whites once again. The Beige Brigade are off to Pamplona to get the adrenaline (and the Stubbies covered thighs) pumping at the San Fermin Festival. We have the closest campsite to Pamps with the quickest shuttles in and out of town...plus parties and activities surrounding the festival.

#10. November. We have it on good authority that the Hadlee-Chappell Series will be held in Australia in late November. And we will be there - let us know if you're keen to join in the mayhem by emailing us here: BeigeHQ@beigebrigade.co.nz

You take care out there please -

Paul (Karori) & Mike (Covent Garden)
