THE LOOP - Spelling Bees, Soccer & Stubbies

22 June 2005

The soccer is behind us - a win and a loss on the day, plus The Beige Stubbies are here now, they're the new wave of anti-fashion passion from Beige HQ...

1. SOCCER IN LONDONIUM

We have done our bit on the soccer front - with a couple of hundred Beige Brigadiers heading along to watch a courageous performance by a freshfaced All Whites side at Craven Cottage in Fulham. Sure we lost the soccer 1-0 but more importantly we won the half-time penalty shoot-out against the Aussie fans. Thanks to J A and Milts for their help in putting this together for us. Also thanks to the greatest beige musician of all time, Ryan Edwards who played a few ditties for the Kiwi fans before kick-off. A wonderful chap.

2. STUBBIES

The genuine little shorts for the big jobs have arrived - they are sensationally horrific. $35 plus delivery to your door. Only available in a filthy dark brown. These are genuine Stubbies with that bloody ridiculous key pocket and everything. We have some sizes here and some on the way - sizes in cm are: 77, 82, 87, 92, 97, 102 and 107. Get in touch and we'll unleash. As seen recently on L&P's retro campaign too: www.landp.co.nz/downloads.htm

3. SPELLING BEE - Goodness Me!

Good work Charlotte from Hamilton - our wee mate who was extremely normal and made us proud as the Kiwi entrant in the nerdorama that is the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee. We sponsored her and her Dad and the documentary crew from Sticky Pictures - nice to see the boys on the telly during the comp. For the record, the trophy went to this text book spelling bee pin-up Anurag, aka The Rag. We had a few beers at Fox's Ale House at the Viaduct in Auckland and watched the Bee unravel on the telly - wonderful!

4. ON THE HORIZON

- Get in touch if you're up for the All Blacks rugger at the end of the year, we're sorting things out on this front as we speak.

- We're off to the Super Series one-dayers between the World & Australia in Melbourne, under the lid at the Telstra Dome in October.

- We've been invited to have a wee Beige Brigade fashion show with the Barmy Army lads at their HQ in Auckland so we'll see what happens there. Might need to take a day's annual leave after that one. By the way, don't even get us started on the artificial corporate crowd mania being put together by adidas and the NZ Rugby Union - real passion and support is spontaneous and must come from the fans not from commercial dollars.

- Anyone mincing around the Midlands in the UK should consider getting along to see the Australia vs Leicester game. The club has been in touch to let us know they're making quite a song and dance about it so have a squizz here if you're into it: www.leicestershireccc.co.uk

5. THE CHAPS

- Two of the hardcore members of the Beige Brigade have been seen doing ridiculous things of late - first there is Mike Boots Lane who turned his hand to bodybuilding, an insight into his revolting and highly amusing exploits is on the Beige Brigade website here - viewer discretion is advised. Also, Bede "The Spoliator" Skinner has packed in his burgeoning radio career and is now in the teen wonderland of Top O' the Pops. Promises have been made about him wearing Beige Brigade kit on the show - but it's just been a dazzling array of bad T-shirts and grungy jeans so far - we're watching brother!

- Also, we wanted to show the pics we got from Narly of some Beige Brigade insanity at the Hong Kong Sevens - cheers chap! Have a look at some of them here.

6. KIT

The new brown sweatbands are flying out, as are the Baby Beige shirts and we look forward to firing our stash of Stubbies around the world too. We still have vests, jandals, strides, truckers, bucket lids, visors and umbrellas in our lounge as well. If you're up for any kit, just get in touch. We are pretty reliable on the old emails so we will reply unless we're at a sporting event (in beige not black!).

Take care out there, Paul & Mike
