The Poms love their small horses - double helping of news today from the Metro in London:
First up, there is Alfie:
The three-year-old Shetland, who has a taste for Guinness and cheese crisps, can be found in the bar on most days after his owner worried he was spending too much time on his own. Alfie first trotted down to The Woodman in Woodmansterne, Surrey, three months ago after he started squealing when he was left in his pen. ‘There was a sign saying dogs weren’t allowed in but it didn’t mention ponies,’ Mrs Sutherland said. Customers were shocked by their new pint-sized drinking partner at first but now happily let him sup leftovers. And even the management puts up with a bit of horseplay in the bar. Landlord Matthew Lowe said: ‘I was a bit surprised but he’s a lovely horse and doesn’t cause any problems.’

And then there is the Georgina Beyer of small horses - Tootsie - the Shetland pony with “both male and female genitalia” who was thought to be a mare and went by the name of Amy.
“I think behaviourally he is not sure and the other animals seemed to have an issue with him,’ she said. “Before they even touched him, we noticed they flapped their ears back, which is a sign they don’t like someone, as if to say ‘you’re not normal’ [a bit like what the Beige Brigade often yell at Andre Nel]. We knew we were going to have to pair him with another animal. He seems to have settled in with a little donkey called Derek.”

This a wonderfully inspirational song for the All Blacks to consider as they begin their Rugby World Cup tour of duty. Cam at The Radio Network in Wellington was described by Off-White Thunder from The BYC podcast as “one of our studio engineers with too much time on his hands”. Cam put it slightly differently:
Here’s a song for the world cup that I wrote, played, sung and produced. It’s a bit of a laugh. Hope you like it. Have a nice day.

Scottish Sally from Hong Kong asks: “Is this beige I see before me? Or just toffee-cream?” Terrific to see the kilt wearers have seen the light and embraced beige as the ‘nest big thing’ in Scottish cricket. Love the fact that he admits they have played bugger all Twenty20 but “due to the Scottish weather, we have been involved in a lot of shortened games and we’ve done well under those circumstances.” May the power of the beige be with them - it is beige enough for us Sal.

The wonderful chaps at Pulp Sport are winding back into another season - comfortably the Beige Brigade’s #1 favourite NZ sports comedy show, it will be wonderful to have the boys back. Hopefully the security guards at a few more NZ sports grounds will be shown up for the muppets they so often are, NZ sporting celebs and B-listers will be made to do weird things, there will be tackle of all kinds when the Super Streaker erupts again, and there is bound to be some effective piss-take cricket coverage.

An eagle-eyed Beige Brigadier, Jezza, asked us today: “Is it just me, or has Flem grown a funky mo?” My God son, a wee gem is developing there - perhaps he had a moonlighting trip to Brighton for the Championships held this week.

Direct from Cuba Street, Wellington to you…the WaGs XI, a deep and powerful analysis of the Indian Cricket League and a wee ripper of a song from the Woman Slayer…it certainly is Episode 45 of The BYC. Listen in with the wee player below, download it or drop it down from iTunes here. Send your nominations for the Cat Stevens ‘Fathers and Sons XI’ for next week to us at: BYC@beigebrigade.co.nz.
