God Bless the B Army

Filed under: The Rave — Snedz @ 11:08 am

The English fans are revolting - their trumpeter Billy Collins has been banned (and reinstated) and they are drowning in regulations around how to watch cricket in Brisbane. We know what they are on about - witness the security at Eden Park or the Stadium in Wellington as an example of overkill. A ripper piece is here in The Observer.

Whoops - Stuff Stuff-up

Filed under: The Rave — Snedz @ 8:19 pm

Thanks to Narly for this one…

Stuff’s captions MAY have got out of alignment with their photos or else they are all drunk down there. Note Stepehen Fleming’s “retro” 1992 World Cup WStar shirt - the new hard case NZC effort for the Twenty20s against Sri Lanka in December. The new Rainbow shirt is not retro at all really - the 90s are still not cool - and grey just was never amusing in any way shape or form. Another master stroke from the muppets at WStar - for the record the Beige Brigade think the new gear is atrocious.

Thanks AS for this one - the DomPost sub-editor gets a bit carried away. If they had played in Amsterdam it might hev been more appropriate - but nevertheless well done that man…

Movember - William on fire

Filed under: The Rave — Snedz @ 8:13 pm

We are set to announce a cheeky Beige Brigade fundraiser for Beige Brigadiers who are in the throes of developing their facial growth for the month of Movember. A big beige man is Willie - look at the state of this. As he said - “not bad for a man with only three pubic hairs”. Look out for him in a lycra suit at the big gala partay in Auckland.

Psycho Fans

Filed under: The Rave — Snedz @ 4:00 pm

Just discovered the following wonderful posting on Murali’s website - obsessive Indian fans make the cricketing world go around!

Sreejith K Nair - India
  HI
Dear Murali, Today only I came to know that you have a website. It’s really interesting and I would like to congratulate all persons, who have initiated it. The one thing I have noticed is that your match-wise statistics has not been updated yet. Your test match figures shown in your website is till the 3rd & final Test against England. Afterwards you have played 2 more test matches against South Africa and the latest figures are this. Batting and fielding averages class mat inns no runs hs ave bf sr 100 50 4s 6s ct st Tests 108 140 49 1095 67 12.03 1580 69.30 0 1 125 24 59 0 ODIs 276 128 49 456 27 5.77 673 67.75 0 0 28 5 111 0 Bowling averages class mat balls runs wkts bbi bbm ave econ sr 4 5 10 Tests 108 36139 14432 657 9/51 16/220 21.96 2.39 55.00 38 56 18 ODIs 276 15067 9685 416 7/30 7/30 23.28 3.85 36.21 10 8 0 So,I request you to update this after each match. I really wanted to see you right on top in both forms of the game just because you are a legend. All cricket loving fans across the world are really proud of you because you have brought innovation to the spin bowling and because of your effort spin bowling has reached new heights. Now the cricket world is enjoyind and learning all new techniques you drafted in spin bowling department.I am praying for your better health so that you could play atleast 10 more years in international cricket. If you continue this form by 2010/11 I am sure that you will get 1000 wickets in test match cricket and 600 wickets in oneday cricket. As a die-hard fan I request you to avoid playing maximum first- class matches in Sri Lanka & County Matches in England to keep your body fit. I know that county contract fetches you lot of money but at the same time they will make you to work more without any rest.Your teammate Mr.Vaas had said about it after his season with Woecesrershire last year. He had a injury problem because of overdose of cricket there.By playing more & more matches, your shoulder problem may occur again, that is why I am worried. So you should always be in touch with your doctor Mr.Brian Young after each tour to keep your body fit all the time. I am looking forward to see you in India for the Champions Trophy and wish you all the best. This year you will be playing two more matches in New Zealand and I hope you will get atleast 20 more wickets and make the wicket tally to 677.Then you will be 9 wickets short of Shane warne to become highest wicket taker in the history of the game. But Shane Warne will be playing 5 test matches in Ashes Test Series. Then both of you will have long gap for the test matches because of world cup in March 2007. I am sure that you can overtake him after the home series aginst Bangladesh & England in 2007. I also wish you the best for the next years world cup and all your future tours. I hope that your son Narain is doing fine and you will be enjoying free time with him. One again wish you all the best and if you have time please reply to me on my id srijithknair@gmail.com. With Love Sreejith K Nair

Tall, Fair & Handsome and Rugged, Dashing & Dapper

Filed under: The Rave — Snedz @ 4:01 pm

A hat-tip to SG for uncovering this one from The Telegraph in Calcutta. Presumably DLV and CLC thought they could get away with saying these sorts of soppy spew-inducing things to Indian papers - this makes the Woman’s Weekly look quite hard-hitting!

Sample quotes:

That’s New Zealand cricket star Daniel Vettori for you. Tall, fair, handsome, modest, charming and successful — all the qualities a girl would want in her man.

Family facts: First the good news: he’s still a bachelor. Then the bad news: “I’ve been seeing this girl for nearly two years now. Marriage is on the cards but not right now. I’m just 27!”

Cairns exudes a sensual feel, a raw sex appeal with his muscular frame and piercing light brown eyes.

Rugged looks with the right mix of dashing and dapper. “It feels nice to receive attention and be called hot by women. But I’d rather stay away from all that; it would make my wife very angry,” he laughs.

Man they better have got paid well for doing this.

Magnificently weird - the Bali viral ad campaign

Filed under: The Rave — Snedz @ 8:57 am

A new - and dreadful - twist on the Australian “where the bloody hell are you” campaign (featuring that hot chick Laura Bingle) has been unleashed by a group of tourst hotels in Bali - “Where the Bali Hell Are You?”. The best bit is at the end where our wonderful Balinese host stuffs up the punchline (he just says: :Where the Bali are ya?”)- but look out for the ‘real subtle’ steretypes of the various nationalities of tourist that venture to Bali for their holidays…

Mike Wins 10 Grand

Filed under: The Rave — Snedz @ 8:48 am

Beige Brigade northern hemisphere logistics manager and co-founder Mike Lane had a great win while in Sth Africa for the weekend last month:

£10,000 ‘Hole in One’ WINNER at the SA Charity Golf Day.
Date: 08 September 2006

1st Contact sensationally gave away £10,000 to one lucky winner at the SA Charity Golf Day held at Foxhills Golf Club.

With over 400 players registered to raise funds for South African charities, 1st Contact were offering £10,000 towards a dream holiday to anyone who hit a hole in one on either of our sponsored holes.

Mike Lane was ecstatic after hitting the perfect shot on the par 3 hole (200 yards), to the jealously and amazement of the other players. This was a phenomenal feat.

1st Contact CEO, Reg Bamford, who presented the giant £10,000 cheque to Mr Lane at the gala dinner, was delighted to add appeal to the largest charity golf day in Europe. ‘It has been a fantastic day for an even better cause. 1st Contact are extremely proud to be associated with such a positive initiative and are thrilled to see someone scoop the £10,000 prize’.

It is safe to say Mr Lane will be back to support the charity event next year… that is, if he’s back from his dream holiday.

Andre Nel - a simile

Filed under: The Rave — Snedz @ 7:46 am

How good is Cricinfo’s description of Andre Nel’s bowling style?

It’ll be Nel to continue, charging flat-footedly up to the crease like a man on roller-skates chasing a stray shopping trolley with a wonky wheel. Chanderpaul to face
