The 2nd XI

Filed under: The Rave — The Chaps @ 10:37 am

Craig Spearman has kicked off the season with a ton over in the UK for Gloucestershire - a talented player for sure. He was another bloke who never got a fair crack at the top of the order. Here is a team of unlucky buggers and forgotten men, excluding the 12 guys from the most recent Test match:

Spearman [H Marshall]
How [Fulton]
Sinclair [Fleming]
Vincent [Styris]
Taylor [Astle]
Ryder [Oram]
Hopkins (wk) [McCullum]
Gillespie [Mills]
Patel [Vettori]
Tuffey [Franklin]
Mason [Martin]
12th - Butler [Bond]

Football (Soccer): NZ v Brazil, Geneva, Sunday 4 June

Filed under: The Rave — The Chaps @ 9:30 am

This is a quick note to let you know Beige Brigade HQ is planning a mission to Geneva for the soccer (or football, whatever it’s called today) on June 4. We’ve got an allocation of tickets in the NZ zone, we will head over there and go mental (and take the piss) so if you are still in the UK and keen to unleash then get in touch! Flick on to anyone else who may be interested as well of course - more the merrier and all that…Plan is to spend 2 nights in Geneva - we have a pub and a place to stay all in the process of being sorted out. Should be a ripper trip - anyway flick us an email back if you’re keen to (a) come along for some soccer shenanigans; and/or (b) help spread the word about the game and get as many Kiwis over there to see the Brazilians give us a hiding! Mike is kicking about in London so we’re planning on being relatively organised for this edition! All ideas, contributions and chants welcomed.

Details:
Venue: Stade de Geneve, Geneva, Switzerland
Kick Off: 18.00 Swiss time
Date: Sunday 4th June 2006

Awards Coverage

Filed under: The Rave — The Chaps @ 9:58 am

Sure it isn’t the Oscars, or even the Oscars of cricket, but in The Press Geoff Longley chipped away about the Beige Brigade awards…

Meanwhile, the Beige Brigade have announced their awards, a selection of which are printed below.
Jerry Collins Trophy (most meritorious tackle by ground staff): security guard against woman streaker at Twenty20 international, Eden Park.
Adolf Medal (ground with the stupidest rule): The “No sitting in the front three rows” rule – the dumbest of the lot. Said the judges: “Even our nanas could throw an apple, a bottle or a small child that far if they wanted to hit a player.”
Beige Brigade Player of the Year:Australian Mick Lewis for his extraordinary effort to destroy Martin Snedden’s worst bowling figures in a one-day international.
Disappointment of the Year: South Africa, for ruining New Zealand’s world record run chase by more than 100 runs.

Mick Bashing

Filed under: The Rave — The Chaps @ 9:18 am

This is from Cricinfo - Mick Lewis gets another caning on the back of his bowling effort in the Pura Cup final…Aussie discard Brad Hodge scored a ton for Victoria and for Qld that overrated dickhead Shane Watson smashed 201. Jimmy Maher (10994 first-class runs, 0 Test matches for Australia) clubbed a double ton as well, and 2 blokes we haven’t heard of got centuries as well!

No rest for the wicked(tless) Poor old Mick Lewis. It’s just one indignity after another at present. If he thought that 10-0-113-0 and all that was about as bad as it could get, he had reckoned without the small matter of the Pura Cup final a mere fortnight later. Queensland hurtled to a monstrous 900 for 6 declared, Lewis was dispatched for 156 runs in 39 overs, and Victoria were trounced by a whopping innings and 354 runs. Two days later, New Zealand’s Beige Brigade named Lewis as their Player of the Year “for his extraordinary effort to destroy Martin Snedden’s worst-bowling-figures-in-an-ODI record”, and suggested he should become Adidas’ new poster boy - “Impossible is Nothing”.
