Snedden’s Record Stands

Filed under: The Rave — The Chaps @ 11:03 pm

We’ve always enjoyed the fact that Martin Snedden holds the record for the world’s worst bowling figures in a one-day international. Sure, he conceded his century and then some over 12 overs rather than 10, and he got a couple of wickets but dishing up 105 runs in any ODI is quite special. In that World Cup match in 1983 he was put to the willow sword by Allan Lamb (102 off 105). In contrast, Mr Cricket Nerd Richard Hadlee took a measly 1-26 off his 12.
Andy Blignaut gave Sneds a run for his money last night though with his atrocious display of short-pitched longhops, leisurely full tosses, and half volleys. Louis Vincent more or less scored his hundred million runs by accident - it was an all you can eat buffet of women’s cricket bowling let’s be honest…

Brett Lee - Chipped

Filed under: The Rave — The Chaps @ 10:32 pm

This so English - childish, puerile but such wonderful harmless fun. Bless them. It is from a hardcase soccer show over on Channel 4 in the UK called Soccer AM . It is a 2 megabyte mpg file so don’t tear your mane out if you can’t get it to work. Lee is soon to be belted to all corners of Trent Bridge in the first session of the 4th Test on a feather bed. Pleasant.

Lost for Words about War of the Words

Filed under: The Rave — The Chaps @ 4:58 pm

On Thursday September 1 at 8:30pm all TV sets should be tuned to TV3 for the Scripps Howard Spelling Bee documentary that will screen, War of the Words. As Fiona Rae put it so wonderfully in her weekly TV highlights listings for The Listener:

Inside New Zealand: War of the Words (TV3, 8.30pm). Spelling is hot,
apparently. Perhaps it was the excellent documentary Spellbound, that
piqued everyone’s interest, or the fact that ESPN has televised the
final of the famous US Scripps National Spelling Bee live since 1994.
There’s been a Broadway musical and spelling bees are now the subject of
two forthcoming movies. The winner of Scripps wins $US22,000, a college
scholarship and a round of talkshow appearances. This year, for the
first time, a New Zealand youngster competed for the prize. Hamilton’s
Charlotte Roose may not have progressed very far into the competition
but, as sponsor Beige Brigade commented, she was “extremely normal in
the nerdorama that is the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee”.

The Librarian

Filed under: The Rave — The Chaps @ 4:38 pm

We told you he was a librarian. Shit he can bat a bit though can’t he? He ruined another one of the old school chaps’ records when he hit 3 figures off his 82nd delivery - Bruce Taylor had previously had the fastest century for NZ with his coming against the Windies back in 1969. Plenty of hooking, pulling and slapping through point although everyone will have missed it because they stayed up too late the night before watching Flintoff maul Kasprowicz & Lee. Dan is now 12th= on the fastest ever tons in Test cricket - such a good pub record to have. For the record, Taylor beat him in terms of time though - with his hundred coming up off 86 minutes vs Dan’s 107. Couldn’t find a really good pic of Tails, so this one of Dan will have to do - Mr Excited.
