If you are at a loose end this ANZAC Day (and it is a Sunday after all!) and are in London then cruise along for this..its a cracker day!
All the details are on the website …or the guts of it are detailed below in a press release…that we altered slightly in places.
The ANZAC RUGBY CHALLENGE 2010 is a sporting & cultural event that provides local amateur sports groups the opportunity to expose and promote themselves to the community…and drink beer and have a laugh. This year we also have a number of amazing up and coming musicians providing Live Music during the day and the opportunity to meet New Zealand All Black legend Zinzan Brooke and his massive, almost inhuman sized head. Zinny will be giving away his weight in Speight’s Gold Medal Ale…which by the size of his melon will be a significant prize!…if you don’t beleive us on the size of this skull then take a good look at the photo below…the two beige guys are fully grown mean with averaged sized craniums….

Every year on the 25th of April, Australians and New Zealanders come together in remembrance of those brave men and woman who gave their lives as the ultimate sacrifice in protection of our freedom and liberty. ANZAC Day is the one true occasion that binds the two great nations of Australia and New Zealand. It is in the spirit of bringing people together in remembrance on this day that the ANZAC Rugby Challenge began 27 years ago.
The event is again proudly hosted by Wasps FC, Twyford Ave, Acton and will be held on Saturday May the 1st, gates open at 10am…and its a easy stagger back to the big lights of Acton!
Sport is still a key focus for the day and we are proud to involve the following teams; LNZRC, London Maori Wanderers, Wasps FC, London Kiwis Rugby League, London Kangaroos Rugby League (The league itself is full of more swinging arms and shoulder barges than a Wainuiomata game) Everyone can get involved as on the day we run a social mixed Touch and the All Nations Netball ladies competitions.
We are really excited to announce the following Line up of Live Music;
Jayson Norris - If you haven’t seen him yet…you must be new. Played some of London’s biggest festivals including Love Box & Secret Garden.
Cape Fear - Fairly new….we’ve never heard of them either. But after 56 Steiny Pures they will rule
I am Giant - Based in London: Former Blindspott Drummer Shelton Woolright (who use to shag Nicky Watson…who you say? Exactly.) Paul Matthews (former Tadpole bass) and two Londoners Max O’Donnell and Ed Martin.
Monty Bevins - he has the same name as Monty Betham…so don’t fight him.
The ANZAC RUGBY CHALLENGE is a family friendly event….i.e no 56 yr old strippers like The Church. The London Kohanga Reo is providing a fun filled day of activities for the kids. We are proudly supporting “Hope for Heroes” and hope to raise over £5000 for this amazing charity.
There will also be a great range of New Zealand and Australia’s favourite food and beverage, including a traditional NZ hangi, Jumbucks Pies & burgers from Cattle Grid. There are a number of great prizes to be won on the day.
Tickets are on sale now; see the website for all details, including how to enter a touch or netball team. www.anzacrugbychallenge.com
